The News Flu

All the news I consume from a seemingly infinite number of sources and to what end? Does it make me smarter? More informed? Does it enrich or better my life in any way? Is there any constructive means to expunge it from my head that contributes signal in the vast wasteland of noise?

The function of the news: a means to assuage boredom and uncertainty (surely HE won’t win, tell me this to be true, oh prognosticators of political veracity in 140 characters) while fanning the flames of anxiety to which the only means of release is to assuage that anxiety by checking the news; clusterfuck of endless, cyclical narrative in practice.

Stuck in my head: Courtney Barnett, ELEVATOR OPERATOR.
